Part of the technology that is supporting the ongoing improvements and downscaling of projectors from the behemoths of yesteryear down to small form factor projectors and now approaching useable handheld projectors is the LED. LED’s are light emmitting diodes, small ways of providing bright light – and the brightness is the key feature relative to the micro projector. LED’s are now even becoming useable as car lighting systems, with outstanding life cycles and ever increasing brightness against size they are the clear choice and its great we are now seeing LED Micro Projectors available from all the leading pico projector vendors.

But how far can LED’s improve the micro-projector? Well this really is the question we should be asking ourselves, while current generation micro projector led’s are bright enough to project an image onto a wall around 50inchs diagonally they do tend to be a little dim on bright days. A three fold improvement will take some time but thats at least where they need to end up. If LED Projectors can take the brightness up and the ccd/lcd developers can minimize the size of higher resolution pixel display systems (DLP and LCD) then the micro projector will be an a huge step forward.
