Samsung has just announced that two of its newest gadgets brought to market are too include micro projector’s. They have developed a competitor to the 3mpro in the Samsung MPB200 Micro Projector, coming in at around the same spec. Further to this development from samsung they also intend to integrate this into one of their phones, formally bringing a “projector-phone” to market in the west (uk).

The MPB200 micro-projector and the i7410 samsung projector phone are far from a pipe dream and should actually reach us (hopefully sooner but..) within 6-12 months of finalising. Live examples have been seen at shows and limited releases.  It has been said that the microprojector (MBP200) will be starting to be shipped as early as May/April of 2009 and the i7410 mini projector phone should be out shortly after and before the autumn. The micro-projector should cost around 499 Euro/£400 and weigh 160g, a price which is marginly higher than the 3m and optica equivilent picoprojectors. This could hint at an improved quality of product as we have grown to expect from samsung with its outstanding flat screen tvs

Despite this higher price tag the specification of the new Samsung pocket projector are actually a little less amazing than you might expect, a native resolution of 320 x 240 does not impress substancially but a capacity of projection of up to 480 x 320 is comparible to the other gadgets currently already at market. It does support standard 3.5mm headphones and other audio output devices as well as Micro SD memory cards of up to 16gb, a near requirement of these projectors.

Capable of viewing and playing the following file types natively without additional codecs  (Adobe PDF,MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel, Text, JPEG, GIF, Animated GIF, MBP), music player (MP3, WMA, OGG, AAC, WAV,DivX, Xvid, WMV9 Simple Profile, MPEG-2, MPEG-4; Audio CODEC: MP3, AAC, WMA) it should be able to show you the things you want to see. Our favourite of these is the DivX support – an excellent addition to micro projectors, this could mean you could watch a whole movie, series from an SD card without the need for any additional gadgetry/pc/graphics output – this should appeal to all public transport users

The samsung projector-phone will no doubt use a compacted version of the same projection technology but is said it will also have a 3.2″ touchscreen display, 5 megapixel digital camera with flash and TRI band GSM. This is one gadget to watch out for!!!
