Micro-projectors favoured by gadget creators
Since the inception of this blog @ microprojector 5.co.uk (we arent even that old!) there is a striking increase in the number of applications of the micro-projector. As many people have said the concept of a small gadget that produces a big video output on any near by surface is definately not a new idea, technologists and gadget producers have been dreaming of todays pico projector’s for probably at least 10-15 years. 2008/2009 looks to be the point of acceleration though in the ongoing progression, while slow progress in micro-projector technology was made for the last 10 years its only recently they have made a mass market presence and become reasonably priced at retail gadget outlets.
Hitting the mass market might be the best thing ever for the micro projector as a concept, certainly putting them out there will create all sorts of new scenarios that will help the development significantly more than men in labs (no disrespect :p) Recently we have seen projects like this fantastic implementation of an integrated personal computer, powered by a fone size box the micro-projector component hangs round the users neck, with a mirror about 1 inch away to throw the projection onto whatever the user is facing. This is a really inventive use of a microprojector and shows how people are grabbing the technology and seeing what can be achieved with it.
The combination of higher and higher resolution digital imaging, coupled with fantastically developing micro-projectors and no doubt some clever shape recognition software should mean the next 10 years see’s the public getting a lot more up close and personal with the handheld projector. Its set to be an exciting development of technology! You know somethings going to big when MIT start playing with it!
