Its a new Nikon season and they have released their new range of camera’s, all in true nikon style quite phenominal at getting the best out of our vision as photographers. The camera of most note to us here at micro projector5.co.uk though is the NikonCoolpix S1000pj, a camer not so traditional to nikon’s routes. The reason being (as mentioned in our last post) Nikon, in a trailblazing move have built a small micro projector into the front of the camera! Yes thats right, you read that correctly – the new Nikon Coolpix S 1000 pj has a projector built into it! (presumably thats why its called pj) – This is phenomenal news for the technology and a great step forward in the creative use of micro projectors coupled with other devices.

It seems almost like the most common sense technology to couple with a micro projector – a camera offers a link to our visual world and time, digital cameras essentially capture moments in time as 0’s and 1’s, something which a micro projector was almost bread to display. This micro projector camera is no doubt going to make digital camera users everywhere realise what they have been missing, imagine the capacity to view a 40 inch lightbox of your images on a nearby wall, pavement or signpost – and whats more in future models (speculative ideas here..lol) you could use the camera part of the technology to allow human input against the projected image – allowing you to reorder, name, delete, edit, zoom, manipulate, send and a whole bunch of other things to a lightbox of photographs or a single one. The coupling of these two technologies really is a fantastic step towards a more interactive camera.

As well as everything you expect from a high end compact nikon coolpix camera you can now have your photographs projected onto things. No doubt this early model will have flaws such as battery life is likely to be short, full video and other features are potentially not available – but even without these features, displaying your just taken photograph on the wall for all too see is a feature that outweighs them all.

The future can hold some great technological advance here, photography and micro projectors could herald a whole new genre of art – the coupling of projecting a moving or static image onto the usual life canvas a camera takes will allow for a whole new avenue of photographic art, projectography perhaps it will be called! – Lets hope the market reacts well the to Nikon Coolpix S1000pj, because if enough are brought it will give the manufacturers a nice incentive to move into this essential area of Research and Development. We think that the coolpix s1000pj will probably sell well too, at a price tag of $590usd and an equivilent of around £400 in the uk, its going to be snapped up by young photographers everywhere – we will get one!
