High Resolution Micro Projector? A Better Pico Projector?
We have talked many a time on this blog about the features that need work on to get the micro projector to where we all as gadget lovers want it to be – the most commonly mentioned pitfall of the pico projector
is resolution. People use it as an excuse not to buy one “well I would love a micro projector but the resolutions just to low” – it wasn’t long ago we all loved watching tv at a lower resolution than most micro projectors
now provide – but people pick up technology quicker than anything these days.

But soon these people will have no excuse but to join the gadget world of the pico projector, signs of a high resolution micro projector (HD?) are appearing on the horizon. The worlds first 1024×600 (super vga) microdisplay and the worlds smallest WVGA
(854×480) micro display have just been produced (Source Business Wire.) These high resolution small screens are promoted to “enable consumers to enjoy a large screen experience in handheld
electronics”. There are said to be “four products that support WVGA, SVGA and Wide SVGA resolution in pico projectors” – this is a great sign for the next six months – pico projectors are going Wide SVGA!!!!!!!
Designed specifically for the embedded pico projector market and for creating standalone micro projectors these panels could give us all those higher resolution pico projectors we want. They are codenamed
the SYL2030 (854×480), SYL2041 (800×600) and SY2061 (1024×600) and have some insane specifications that would have been impossible a few years ago – the next generations of micro projectors are going to be high resolution!
SYL2030 Embedded Micro Display
- 854 x 480 pixels
- 6mm tall
- pixel array diagonal of 0.21 inch
- 5.4 micro pixel pitch
- less than 7 mm wide
- Designed primarily for high volume pico embedding markets this device will be seen in many phone and micro projector handsets / gadgets over the next 6-12 months
SYL2041 SVGA Micro Projector Display
- 800 x 600 (SVGA) pixels or…
- 854 x 480 (WVGA)
- 9.4 micro pixel pitch (allows for higher brightness when coupled with LED illumination.)
SYL2061 – Higest Resolution micro projector mini display so far?
- 1024 x 600 (Wide SVGA)
- 9.4 micro pixel pitch (allows for higher brightness when coupled with LED illumination.)
- pico projector’s using the SYL2061 microdisplay will definately be the highest resolution of the new wave of micro projectors
