Pico Projector Runs Windows – EPOQ EPP-CEP1

Pico projector’s are great, if you didn’t already know. But other than resolution another annoying thing about them that could be improved is their standalone capacity. All of the current microprojectors require to be driven by something, a laptop, ipod or iphone, dvd player or computer has to be plugged into the back of them in order to display files and feed video in. This isnt so bad if your semi-mobile with a net book or similar but it does mean an additional expense.

Anyway perhaps an interesting hybrid has emmerged. The EPOQ EPP-CEP1 is a pico projector that runs windows! the small hand held projector has a tiny Samsung ARM 9 Core 2442 cpu running at 400MHz – a nice little processor that doesnt seem to add a huge amount to the size of the small pico projector. This addition of a processor means you can run windows CE which instantly seperates you and makes you independant of any pc or netbook. You can put up office documents, images, videos, pdf’s etc all strait from the device. Couple this with a few usb ports means you can even plug a mouse and keyboard into it and have a completely mobile pc thats even smaller than a netbook. Add a wireless keyboard/mouse and thats a pretty neat setup.

The resolution isnt phenominal at VGA but its useable, the SD card slot is also good, 10 lumens of brightness not bad and a pretty good 4 hour battery life that is yet to be confirmed.
Not yet for sale in the UK this small pico projector is likely to come in at around the £300 – not bad for whats essentially a small pc with a projector thatll fit in your hand! – We cant wait to full test this one!
