Micro Professional Projector

If your a regular Micro Projector 5 reader you will know that as of yet there isn’t really a “professional” range of micro projector’s – all are kind of aimed squarely at the professional, whether its 3m’s MMPro 120 (or 110) or AAXA P2 – all pico projectors really are micro professional projector’s at this point. As the micro projector technology develops I do expect there to be a stronger bias and ultimately a split within the subcategories under micro projector’s, as there has been with larger size projector’s – and that is between “Professional” projector’s and projector’s built for home cinema and gaming.

This split between the micro professional projector and the gaming pico projector is yet to be clearly stated, although the lower resolutions and cheap prices of pico projectors at this point does in fact favour the entertainment market over the professional one – despite being more targeted at the roaming professional person. The microprojector at current is marketed as a way to provide powerpoint presentations on the go, while in reality they are probably being used more by gamer’s to project shooter games onto their friends ceilings or watch the odd film on the bedroom wall. This is perhaps why the projector’s such as the optoma pk101 and the wowee cinemin are selling as well as the bigger announced 3M MPro120.

As resolutions improve and we get more laser/oled micro projector’s we will probably more obviously see the gap broaden between the widescreen HD intensive micro projector for gaming, films and similar and the pocket projector for the professional to use to win over a client with sheer gadget based independence!
