When it comes to embedded pico projector’s the first thing we think about, by nature of there being a few seen in Taiwan is the idea of a mobile phone pico projector. That title can definitely be awarded to the Fujitsu F-04B. Heralded by the gadget blogs and magazines as the first mobile phone with an embedded pico, it is in fact not at all the first pico projector enabled mobile phone, it is however quite literally a gadget lovers dream. Its worth noting before you uk buyers go to hunt one down, the Fujitsu F04B is only available in Japan, for now.

Modular is the keyword with the F04B from fujitsu, its a smartphone with all the usual toppings, and then some. Constructed from 3 separate layers that slide together, bluetooth binds the smart-phone segments into a single usable phone. There is a nice big 3.4 inch touch-screen segment as well as a full querty keyboard segment. Interchangeable – the segments offer you the option of using the full device in a kind of “gamepad” texting style or as a single normal touchscreen phone. But you couldn’t really call the f04b interchangeable if it just had two segments.

Optionally available (who wouldn’t get this?) is a third segment offering a micro projector which has some good specs. First up has to be the resolution, the pico-projector addition to the Fujitsu-F04B outputs at a currently market lead matching 854 x 480. This resolution is FANTASTIC for such a small device, although with the good comes the bad – at just 6 Lumens this pico does offer an average of half of the current standard pico projector brightness, but then it is a phone attachment not a specialised unit. The way you can also use the keyboard part as a remote control for your pico is also nice, as is a supposed 2 hour battery life at full brightness.

All in all its nice to see companies like Fujitsu recognising the consumer desire for more visually progressive additions to gadgets such as mobile phones, and with more and more interactive media and web browsing capacity reaching the so called smart phone it seems a natural pairing, it is a shame it isn’t coming to the uk, but then – is the iphone + lead + uk pico projector combo not good enough to tide you over?
