[UPDATE] – These video’s have since been removed from youtube, and in fact turned out not to be so new…still lets hope we get the ShoWWX in europe more smoothly :/

MicroVision, the company behind the ShowWX (the worlds first laser driven micro projector – if you didn’t already know) look to be tooling up for a proper mass market release. With the rights to the ShowWX being sold in Aus to Uniden it looks as though it might not be thier intention globally to sell to rebrander’s. The video advertisements for the MicroVision ShowWX are on youtube and feature a range of scenes showing what Microvision expect you to be doing with their small pico laser projector. It’s a good hint that micro-vision see a big future for the pico, at least enough to invest in some television advertising (not cheap) – The video adverts also seem to have an american angle although would probably be fairly well received in western Europe so could this be a hint that we get the microVisions laser pico in the near future? Nothings confirmed but as soon as we start seeing these pico adverts on tv you can bet stock sales, as well as micro-projector sales are likely to get a good boost!

This first ShowWX advert features a couple of young ladies out on the town and seems to attempt to make using a handheld projector cooler than it might sound, by using it to convey thoughts that they wouldn’t usually be bold enough to voice it empowers the user/owner of the micro-projector to control yet another medium of communication, a more graphical, simple and extrovert one. This is a great angle to sell pico’s with if you ask me, and all in all its a good advert – it highlights the technology of a pico-projector and how in the near future technology will be much bigger part of everyday life.

The second MicroVision ad features another bar scene with several guys who you could say look a bit like microsoft employees (hehe) are ordering a beer and having a discussion that basically explains the concept and use of the show-wx in everyday life, its another one which makes the owner of the pico look cool and empowered although its not as blunt as the first advert. A great advert for the micro projector though, I wonder how long it will be until we see people using them in pubs!!

“Music videos everywhere” is the title of the 3rd commercial from Microvision, it depicts two teenage girls using the picoprojector to revisit a music concert, subtly identifying how the handheld projector can be coupled simply with an ipod, iphone etc. A good advert but definately highlights the American audience to these ad’s, one girl describes the micro-projector as “Rad” – you can see this being a great market for them though, its a pity these ad’s havent aired onto tv a few months before christmas in the uk (perhaps without the “rad” comment..lol) because I have no doubt a large proportion of showwx end users will be teenagers watching films/cartoons/etc on the ceilings!

Next up is the “elevator pitch” – another good ad showing their targetting of business customers. Featuring one of the guys from the bar advert it shows a team of two having a last minute catch up on a presentation slide show on the wall of an lift, which does clearly represent what the pico would be good for.

“After the game” – These adverts are spread widely over the cross section of potential users for the microvision-showWx – as this one highlights, a football (dare I use the Americanism – soccer) mum supportively offers instant viewing of a football game featuring her daughter and daughters freind in the back of the car before they set off home – this one attempts to make the technology both accessible to a target demographic it wouldn’t usually be obvious too (the mother) and also add that hint that it would make

A nice selection of adverts from microvision that do clearly show how this nice new laser pico is intended to be used, I look forward to seeing some european versions grace uk television, or at least some of these on american channels.
