XMAS Projectors
Looking at Christmas presents? It seems these days that those “eager beaver” people have already got Xmas presents brought and wrapped by august let alone November. But now the festive feelings have started to kick in people are starting to discuss the topic a bit more. Earlier on in the year we touted the “xmas best seller to be a pico projector” – but in the run up does that look so realistic? Yes and no. Yes there will be a VAST number of pico projector’s sold this xmas and I will be buying the odd XMAS projector, but no it does seem 2010 will be even bigger. The MicroVision ShowWx is still not widely available and this was our secret Santa, our xmas projector that would be sold by the million.

Its never too late I suppose for the ShowWX to be released on mass to uk shops, or for another wonderful pico projector to make it out in good time before Xmas, exclusivity is almost the best tactic if a gadget wants to be the xmas present for gadget lovers, but there’s a time-frame to release these things – probably ending a week or so into December. We won’t be seeing embedded pico’s like in the Fujitsu phone we have just seen launched in Japan, but you never know – we might just get a re-branded (or not) version of the ShowWX and that might just sway the crowds. What are you buying your special people for xmas? What is going to be the xmas gadget of 2009? OLED Tv’s perhaps (a bit big), HD camcorders like the Zi8 (actually a really great purchase @ £116) or will it be the wonderfully developing pico projectors? We shall have to wait and see!

What do you think of Gigaware’s micro projector? I need an inexpensive projector to use with my classroom Smartboard, and at $99 at Radio Shack on Black Friday the Gigaware seemed like a great deal. Let me know what you think.
The Gigaware has an all right tech spec and that is cheap! I would personally hold out for a bigger resolution but for your situation that might work well, if you do go and buy one please do come back and let us know what you think of it!
I like the zi8 but I brought a 720p camcorder like 6 months ago
Unlucky @Axo – there was probably the Zi6 out then though? is that the one you brought? – the Zi8 is actually amazing value at the moment, makes you think “what next” in terms of camcorder technology eh?
I was waiting for the Showwx… but who really knows when it will come in our countries..? A spanish friend just go back to Spain for hollydays, and he cannot find one (Vodafone reseller say “not in catalog, will come soon…”).
Peb is the only “customer” who can find one and wrote on the web (only 1 geek in Spain..?)… and I think Peb is some kind or professional (journalist, reseller,..?).
I find the Royaltek Rpj-2000 by chance on Google, and french reseller Cricel.com just begin to sell it. The spec (and a call to Cricel) let me think the Rpj is built on the 3M MM200, has no fan (and no noise!)… and the price is only 219€
I order it friday morning(on internet), Cricel send it friday afternoon, and I think the french Mail will give it on thursday /wenseday (The Post send me a mail who apologizes for the delay!)
I will try to do a review with some pics when I will have it (but it could be in 2010… I leave home for hollyday during 1 week!).
As we say in France: “Bonnes fetes à tous!”
its a shame they have taken the time to get the showwx to the stores, but it will be here Q1 2010 I think personally.
Is great you have found a seller for the Royaltek, they are a suprise manufacturer that we didn’t know about – please do write a full review for us (in french/english?) and we would love to publish this – if it is really built on the 3m mpro200 then it should be a fairly good unit, although I wonder if it wont last as long if it has no fan to maintain tempereture?
Have an excellent holiday and enjoy your new micro projector, We look forward to hearing about it in 2010!
