Texas Instruments Brightboxe Gaming pico projector
When it comes to projector’s, multimedia projectors, DLP, lcd or pico chances are you will hear something about Texas Instruments in the same conversation. Texas instruments have been big in projectors, pretty much since there has been projector’s. They power a lot of projectors you use today with their projection technology (for example the tiny dlp pico projector below, to be embedded in lots of technology). They do a whole bunch of other stuff too from scientific calculators to cables and accessories (and more.) The news is that Texas Instruments are going to release a specific “Gamer pico projector” – that is a pico aimed solely at the gaming market. With so many micro-projector startups its getting almost difficult to think of a clever brandname but Texas-Instruments pico projector is going to be called the “brightboxe” – which is not the worst name we have seen. It’s not particularly gamey but we are yet to see any marketing for this new gaming-pico.

The specifications of the texas instruments brightboxe pico are anything but confirmed but are said to to be based on an RGB led driver (like a lot of current micro projector’s) and have an average 500:1 contrast ratio. These arent that amazing. The resolution of VGA (640 x 480) is almost the pico-standard at the moment, but does mean no full hd (or even 720p) gaming out of a brightboxe, for that you will be waiting 12 months at least. Apparently capable of 100 inch (diagonal) projection this gaming-pico-projector from texas instrument’s doesn’t completely stand out from the crowd, with a pricepoint of $199 it does seem about middle of the group though.
Speculation is not a great business, so we will wait and see until we get a proper detailed release of spec’s on the brightboxe pocket gaming projector, although it will probably take a bit longer to make it to the uk!
