Light Blue Optics – Light Touch – Holographic Laser Pico Projector

Light blue optics are about to launch their new pico projector going by the name of Light Touch at CES on January the 6th. After securing an excellent $15,000,000 in investment for its future towards the goal of being “the worlds leading supplier of miniature projection systems”. While we have only really seen prototypes of the LBO pico projector so far we do have some information on what the Light Touch Pico projector will spec at.

Supporting WVGA-QVGA images at 10 Lumens – now its not confirmed what the native resolution of this pico will be but I would hazard a guess that “supporting WVGA to QVGA” in fact might mean that they downscale. It would be great to see them bring out a high res pocket projector but I am pessimistic that the Light-Touch will be this. Either way it has some other interesting claims to fame. Based on a holographic laser driver apparently the light touch (and you will get the name after this) allows you to interact with your projection, that is user input can be received as you touch parts of the projection.

If this new model of user input works well this could revolutionise the way we think of gadget GUI, why have menu buttons etc made from hardware components when it call all be software? as aforementioned this is all to be confirmed but hopefully CES will shed a bit more light on the touch operation of the Light blue optics Light Touch pico projector. Further sneak peak’s from LBO include a nifty software correction engine that should allow for optical aberration correction and a very wide throw angle – this is apparently further used in the capacity to move the projection from a wall to a desktop – that is you can project onto a desktop from the unit being placed on the desktop. This fits exceptionally well with the user input aspect of this holographic laser pico projector, we just can’t wait to see how this moves things along for micro projectors! Light blue optics is definitely a company to watch. As more information comes out about the Light Touch and other LBO progressions towards being the biggest pico projector company in the world we will keep you posted!
