Samsung SPP400B LED Projector – Pico or Bigo?

After the question from a reader last week and in time for our roundup of the new pico’s available in the uk we thought we would take a look at a not so pico, microprojector. The samsung SPP 400B LED Projector is a 14.5 x 14.7 x 6.4 cm beast compared to most of the pico projector’s youll see on microProjector5, weighing in at 4 times what most of the mini-projectors do.

We have looked at heavier pocket projecters before but you probably wouldnt fit this one in your pocket – although you might want to try as it has some nice specifications around it:

  • The Samsung SP-P400B is a DLP Projector and uses LED’s as a lightsource.
  • Dimensions (WxDxH): 14.8 cm x 14.6 cm x 6.5 cm
  • Weight: 899grams
  • Image Brightness: 150 ANSI lumens
  • Image Contrast Ratio: 1000:1
  • Resolution: SVGA (800 x 600)

150 Lumens is a nice number, as is the res of 800 x 600 – but for us here on this site its just typical of samsung optics. Lets for example look at samsung tv’s – they consistently come out as one of the top brands while in resolution and other specific terms they havent been top at any point considerably. Theres something else then to samsung, other than top end specs. Quality perhaps – you cant ever say they are built badly – This samsung mini projector certainly looks to be as sturdy and well thought out as the other small projectors that are available.

So from us its a typical input – a probable very good little projector but its not pushing any specification boundaries, but then if your samsung all you really need to do is keep producing the best optics and the buyers will follow, and follow you should on this one. It will be a nice projector I think.

My only last comment is on the connections – VGA? really? Wheres HDMI samsung – get with the program!
